5 Productivity Tips for Small Business Owners

We know how it is. When you’re a small business owner, time is money. You may find yourself chasing your tail when it comes to keeping you and your team on track. We’ve got some productivity tips and tricks to help you stay organized (and sane) so you can make the most of your time and your business.
Prioritize Your Work
It’s nice to think you can do EVERYTHING, but this kind of mentality can leave you unorganized, exhausted, and stressed. Try writing down your tasks and organizing according to daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly deadlines. If you don’t have deadlines, set some for yourself. Keeping a task list can help you prioritize your work, put your mind at ease, and boost your productivity.
Delegate Tasks
As a business owner, it’s important to utilize the talent you have available. Don’t hog all the work if you have capable people at your disposal. Decipher which tasks are best to delegate to different people. For example, assign a logo design to a graphic designer and leave the financial troubleshooting to an accountant. If by chance you don’t have capable people, think about outsourcing help.
Schedule Your Time
When developing a plan of attack on your day, divide it up into chunks. Prioritize with the most immediate tasks to be completed early in the day and the not so immediate ones later in the day. Schedule these blocks on your calendar so you’ll be reminded when it’s time to focus on each task at hand.
Streamline Your Bookkeeping
May small businesses struggle when it comes to bookkeeping. Let’s face it, if you’re a creative business owner, this topic may make you cringe with delight. But don’t despair, there are tools to help ease your right brain! Try QuickBooks or Xero to help stay organized. The best part about these programs is that they can grow with your business.
Invest In Project Management Tools
Collaborating as a team can be challenging enough without the proper tools in place. There are many software programs out there that have the potential to fit your needs as a business. Some offer free trial periods so you can test it out before you purchase but here’s a few to get you off to a good start:

- Slack – A communication platform that allows you to easily keep track of inner office communications and assign tasks.
- Pivot Tracker – Another comprehensive tracking software that allows teams to collaborate and communicate effectively and efficiently all in one place.
